This portrait is also a tribute to one of my greatest artistic inspirations, Chuck Close. Every detail in this piece was created using nothing more than a standard #2 pencil and a carefully measured grid — a technique that traces back to something I first learned in 4th grade summer school.

Years later, I had the opportunity to see Chuck Close’s exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), and it completely changed how I looked at portrait art. Seeing his large-scale grid-based portraits up close was incredibly inspiring. It reminded me of that simple grid method I learned as a kid — and it pushed me to revisit that technique and take it to another level.

Chuck Close became my art hero, and this portrait represents that inspiration in action. Using the grid method, I carefully built this piece square by square, focusing on precision, proportion, and realism. Each section was slowly developed until the full portrait came together — just like the method Chuck Close made famous.

Walter White, portrayed by Bryan Cranston, is one of the most iconic characters in television history. Every detail in this portrait was carefully developed to capture the emotion, intensity, and personality that made Breaking Bad unforgettable.

What makes this piece even more unique is that it was created using only a #2 pencil — no special graphite sets, no blending tools, just a simple pencil and patience.
